THE LAB.WORKSHOPS #05 - CAMERALESS PHOTOGRAPHY w/ RITA DE ALMEIDA LEITE

DATE

With artist Rita de Almeida Leite, we dive into a territory where the image has no defined contours, but instead opens in nuances, stains, and colors in constant transformation.

The chemigram is part of the alternative processes of cameraless photography, where the image is created without a camera, only from the direct action of chemistry on paper. Unlike traditional photographic development, which follows precise rules to give form to a photograph, here the freedom of stain, chance, and experimentation prevails.

Rita de Almeida Leite (b. 1996, Porto) is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Porto.

Graduated in Fine Arts from FBAUP in 2018, where also completed a Postgraduate Degree in Fine Arts (2020). In 2022, attended the intensive course in Community Artistic Practices promoted by PELE - Cultural and Social Association.

Her work develops from painting, photography, engraving and the production of artist's books. The practice emerges from an attention to everyday life, exploring light, nature and the traces these elements leave in their path. The research focuses on the unfolding of image and memory, questioning concepts such as impression and evidence, presence and absence, visibility and invisibility.
