Born in Porto in 1997, Vanessa Vieira da Cunha is currently completing her master's degree in Choreographic Creation and Professional Practices at the Escola Superior de Dança. In 2020, she will complete her degree in dance at Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunst in Tilburg, having spent a period on Erasmus at Artesis Plantijn Hogeschool in Antwerp. Previously, she attended the professional course in Contemporary Dance Performance at Balleteatro Contemporâneo do Porto. Professionally, she has worked as a performer with Luís Malaquias and Bruno Duarte, with Companhia Instável, with Tanztheater Erfurt under the direction of Ester Ambrosino, Azimuth Arts and Dance Ensemble under the direction of Gonçalo Cruzinha, with Companhia de Dança de Matosinhos under the direction of Sara Silva, with Sarah Prescimore and Nele Vandeneede. In 2021, she created ‘8x88’ in partnership with Mara Nunes, as part of the ‘Noite Viva’ artistic residency and at the invitation of Caixa de Palco. In 2020, she began her first solo creation at the Play Practice Artist Residency in Bangalore, ‘Ondas da Terra’ (Waves of the Earth), a partnership with videographer Luís Ferreira and sound designer Tushar Das. In video-dance format, it was screened by Inshadow (PT), IMARP 2020 (BR), Kalakari Film Fest 2021 (IN) and GIRO Dance Festival (PT). On stage, it was presented at ‘Projeções 2021’ at the Coliseu do Porto, at ‘Dia Aberto às Artes’ in Ericeira and at the ‘Festival Aqui ao Lado’. She is also a certified yoga teacher and has been teaching dance classes for all ages since 2019.
